Beginning with my mother, Jean, in 1943, our family have been independentistas for over fifty years. Put simply, Puerto Rico is a sovereign nation, invaded and occupied by the United States in July of 1898 and held under colonial rule ever since (read my mother's book, "Voices for Independence" or "Voces pro Independencia" on-line @ www.hexadec.com/whitestar.) Wanda Colón and the Proyecto coordinated the FOR delegation to Puerto Rico in February of 1998. It's a terrific organization and will be seen as having historical significance in the struggle when independence for Puerto Rico becomes a reality.
