--- 4---DRIVING

Some Thoughts on the Road to Lompoc from the Bay Area (about 300 miles in 5 hours without traffic).

From San Francisco:
Take 280 South.
Take 85 South.
Take 101 South and then follow the next part.

From the Bay Area generally:
Take 101 going South out of San Jose.
Stay on it all the way through Santa Maria.
Take the Clark Rd/Orcutt Exit.
Then you will see signs that say "Lompoc," "Vandenberg," and "Highway 1."
You will be on Highway 135 for a short time.

From there you can get on Highway 1 South toward Lompoc.
You will come to the main gate for Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Highway 1 goes to the left there.
Just before coming into Lompoc, you'll come to a stop light.
The right turn takes you to the motels in Lompoc.
Going straight ahead takes you to La Purisma Mission State Park.

Specific Directions at the Park:
La Purisima Mission State Historic Park

Lompoc

From the parking lot for the Park, walk straight ahead past the little Visitors Center and Gift Shop (rather than going to the left toward the mission church and main buildings). You will find picnic tables under some old oak trees.

Hi everyone,

Judy L. had informed me that the Villager Motel will be shut down for the month of November. However, we do have a backup motel and the information are as follows:

There are only 10 rooms reserved at this motel under "Ta" or confirmation # 210236 from Nov. 16-19th. The rooms are suppose to be double bed and they do not guarantee that all of the rooms will be non-smoking.  The rate is $47.69 not including tax yet. The cancellation
policy is 7 days in advance. You can call them directly and put your name down along with your credit card to hold the room. Please email me with your information especially lodging arrangement because if all of the 10 rooms are not being utilized, I need to call them to cancel any remaining rooms in order to avoid being charged. 

Due to the Sept. 11th tragedy, there has been a significant decrease in airfare. This is what I have found today, Oct. 1st:

1.   US Airways offers $188 fare not including airport taxes yet from www.travelocity.com website. This fare depart Nov. 16th at 10pm and arrives into ATL on Nov. 17th at 9:42am. It departs Nov. 19th at 1:39pm
arriving into SFO at 6:28pm 

2.   US Airways also offers $191. fare not including airport taxes yet from www.travelocity.com website. It departs Nov. 16 at 9am arriving into ATL at 7:48pm. It departs ATL on Nov. 19th at 4:55pm & arriving into SFO at 10pm. There are also other travel times for these dates for $191 if these two does not fit your schedule.

because the event is considered a convention. Delta
will offer 10% discount before Sept. 16th and 5% off

This motel is across from the Howard Johnson Express Inn, the hotel that was used last year.  It is approximately six miles away from Ft. Benning so car pool may be a good idea.

Just want to let you all know that I found another website offering great airfare from SFO to ATL departing on Nov. 16th (Friday) and returning on Nov. 19th (Monday) for $190. + tax. The website is www.hotwire.com and you may need to open an account with them which is free. This fare is non-refundable and you cannot make any changes after you book it.  Fare fluctuate from day to day so it may not be available tomorrow.

    My name is Faye Ta and I am a new member of the SOAW West for those who do not know me. Anyhow, I just want to send an email to everyone with some websites offering the best airfare. If you are flexible with your departure dates and time, you will find some really good deals. This is what I have found today:

    1. From Yahoo Travel (http://travel.yahoo.com/), you can find airfare from either San Francisco or Oakland to Atlanta for as LOW as $141 and up.

    2. From orbitz website (www.orbitz.com) airfare starts as LOW as $170 and up.

    These two websites are also a great place to check for inexpensive car/van rentals.

    I do encourage you to check these sites often if you have not yet booked your tickets for those going to Ft. Benning this year.

    I hope to email information on lodging at Ft. Benning by the end of this upcoming week at the earliest.
