First to Review

Very professional. I needed to have my fireplace cleaned and inspected. I saw the huge crack in the exterior of my brick and knew it had to be rebuilt. I wasn't looking forward to the cost.
I made an appointment for an estimate. The estimator was prompt and friendly. He was knowledgeable and trustworthy. He pointed out that he would suggest (but didn't use scare tactics or any hard sell) the firebox also be rebuilt, as it had these weird metal bars coming out on the sides.
I got bids from three companies. Pendergrast gave me a price for both fixes (including permits!) and it came in less than one other bid (which was for just the chimney rebuild), but higher than an another bid (also just for the chimney). Neither of the other two companies even mentioned a need for permits, let alone covering the price of them (sketchy, if you ask me, huh?).
I am so glad we went with them. The job went off without a hitch; they even finished 2 days earlier than they said they would. The crew was considerate and hardworking.

When looking for someone to repair your chimney, be sure that company understands potential problems outside their scope of work. Pendergrast Masonry is just that kind of company. I hired them to take down the top half of my chimney because, with all the seismic activity in the bay area, I didn't want it toppling over on my neighbor's house. Martin and his crew may have stopped there, but they were conscientious enough to (1) make sure my warranty on my roof was not voided by getting approval on the connection between the chimney and my roof from my roofing company and (2) my fireplace insert was still in operating condition when they were done and I wasn't left stranded with no heat. Not only did the jump on the job right away, but their crew was dependable and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Pendergrast Masonry.

Martin Pendergrast was a joy to work with. He and his workers are honest, cheerful, and respectful. His workers arrived when he said they would, and did a great job with the installation. They were meticulous, protecting our furniture and oak wood floors, and cleaned up beautifully at the end of the day. We had a gas fireplace insert installed, and were able to have his company do all the work, rather than subcontracting out for the gas line, etc. We highly recommend Pendergrast Masonry for your masonry and fireplace needs.
